Sigenergy vs Solax: Premium vs Value Battery Comparison

Sarah Thompson

Energy Analyst, Yeers

Sigenergy SigenStor and Solax Triple Power are two of the most popular battery storage systems YEERS installs across Yorkshire. Both are excellent — but they suit different households. This head-to-head covers capacity, backup capability, smart tariff integration, warranty, pricing, and real-world performance from our installations.

Capacity Options

Sigenergy SigenStor is a fully modular system. You start with a 5kWh base unit and add 5kWh modules up to 20kWh — all in a single enclosure. This makes it the best choice for households that want to start small and expand as their needs grow (for example, when adding an EV charger later). The modular architecture means you never overbuy on day one.

Solax Triple Power comes in fixed capacities of 6.3kWh, 9.5kWh, and 11.6kWh via stackable T-BAT HV modules paired with a Solax X1-Hybrid or X3-Hybrid inverter. It's a mature, well-proven system, but capacity expansion requires purchasing a complete additional module — slightly less flexible than Sigenergy's approach.

Whole-Home Backup Capability

This is where the two systems diverge most significantly. Sigenergy SigenStor supports full whole-home backup. When the grid fails, the SigenStor switches seamlessly to backup mode and can power your entire property — including high-draw appliances like electric showers, induction hobs, and EV chargers (subject to battery capacity). Switchover time is under 20 milliseconds, meaning most electronics don't notice the transition.

Solax offers EPS (Emergency Power Supply) mode, which is a partial-home backup circuit. It powers a dedicated sub-circuit of lower-draw appliances — lights, phone chargers, a fridge — but cannot typically power the whole house. For most households this is sufficient, but if whole-home resilience is a priority, Sigenergy has a clear advantage.

Smart Tariff Integration — Octopus Flux and Agile

Both systems integrate with Octopus Flux and Octopus Agile via API. Sigenergy's cloud platform has a direct Octopus Flux integration that automates charge/discharge scheduling based on half-hourly tariff prices — the battery charges overnight at cheap rates (often 7-12p/kWh on Agile) and exports or self-consumes during peak periods (up to 35p/kWh on Flux export). Solax uses the Solax Cloud API, which is similarly capable but requires slightly more manual configuration to set up the Octopus integration compared to Sigenergy's plug-and-play approach.

Warranty Comparison

  • Sigenergy SigenStor: 10-year product warranty with a guaranteed capacity retention of 70% after 6,000 cycles.
  • Solax Triple Power: 10-year product warranty with 80% capacity retention over the warranty period (approximately 6,000 cycles at standard usage).

Both warranties are broadly comparable. Solax's 80% retention figure is marginally stronger on paper, though real-world degradation in Yorkshire's temperate climate tends to be better than warranty minimums for both brands.

Installed Pricing

  • Sigenergy SigenStor: Approximately £900/kWh installed, all-in including the gateway, wiring, and commissioning. A 10kWh system costs roughly £9,000 at 0% VAT.
  • Solax Triple Power: Approximately £750/kWh installed for the battery modules and X-Hybrid inverter package. A 9.5kWh system costs roughly £7,100 at 0% VAT.

Solax is the more affordable option per kWh. Sigenergy commands a premium for its modular architecture and superior backup capability.

Real-World Performance from Yorkshire Installations

Across YEERS installations in Hull, York, Selby, and Beverley, both systems perform well in the Yorkshire climate. Average annual round-trip efficiency is 92-94% for Sigenergy and 90-93% for Solax. In monitored installations paired with Octopus Agile, customers with a 10kWh Sigenergy system are saving an average of £820/year versus grid import, while Solax 9.5kWh customers average £690/year — reflecting both the capacity and the superior tariff-optimisation of the Sigenergy platform.

Our Verdict

Choose Sigenergy SigenStor if you want whole-home backup capability, plan to expand capacity in future, or have an EV and want seamless integration with Octopus smart tariffs. Choose Solax Triple Power if you want a proven, cost-effective system and partial backup is sufficient for your needs. Both come with YEERS' full installation warranty and commissioning support.

Sigenergy SigenStor vs Solax Triple Power: the upgrade decision

Quick answer: Sigenergy SigenStor is an all-in-one inverter-and-battery system with true whole-home backup, modular 5-48kWh capacity and a ~15-year warranty. Solax Triple Power is keen-value AC/hybrid storage with a ~10-year warranty, but it locks you into the Solax inverter ecosystem. Both qualify for 0% VAT until 31 March 2027.

Figures are indicative, verified June 2026 — confirm exact ratings on your quote. The 0% VAT rate applies to domestic supply-and-install of solar PV, battery storage and standalone batteries until 31 March 2027, after which it reverts to 5% (HMRC VAT Notice 708/6). Many rivals wrongly state 31 January 2027.

The inverter ecosystem decision (this is the real difference)

The headline spec gap is warranty (15yr vs 10yr) and backup type, but the decision that catches most homeowners out is the inverter architecture.

  • Solax Triple Power is a battery that must pair with a Solax hybrid inverter. If your home already runs a Solax inverter it's a clean, cost-effective add-on — but it ties your future to one ecosystem (vendor lock-in for any later expansion).
  • Sigenergy SigenStor is all-in-one: inverter, modular battery and an optional DC EV charger in a single unit. There's no separate inverter to match, and you can stack more capacity later without re-engineering the system.

If you don't already own Solax kit, the SigenStor's integrated design usually means fewer components, simpler fault diagnosis and a longer warranty umbrella. A YEERS surveyor will confirm which suits your roof and load profile during your free solar battery installation assessment.

Choose X if… matrix

ChooseBest when…
Sigenergy SigenStorYou want true whole-home backup, the longest warranty, an integrated EV-charging path, and freedom to expand capacity later without inverter lock-in.
Solax Triple PowerYou already run a Solax hybrid inverter, want the keenest upfront price, and are happy with essential-loads backup.

Whichever you choose, YEERS installs both as an MCS-certified Hull-based installer covering East Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, backed by a 10-year workmanship warranty. MCS certification also unlocks the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG), so surplus stored energy earns export income — Octopus Outgoing pays around 15p/kWh flat (indicative, June 2026). Frequently asked questions

Is Sigenergy better than Solax?

Neither is universally 'better' — it depends on your setup. Sigenergy SigenStor offers true whole-home backup, an all-in-one design and a ~15-year warranty, making it the stronger choice for new installs and future expansion. Solax Triple Power is excellent value if you already run a Solax hybrid inverter, though its backup is typically partial and its warranty ~10 years.

What is the warranty difference between Sigenergy and Solax?

Sigenergy SigenStor carries roughly a 15-year warranty, while Solax Triple Power is typically backed by around 10 years. The longer Sigenergy term reflects its integrated all-in-one architecture. YEERS also adds a 10-year workmanship warranty on the installation itself, separate from the manufacturer's product cover.

Does a Solax battery lock me into the Solax ecosystem?

To an extent, yes. The Solax Triple Power battery is designed to pair with a Solax hybrid inverter, so any later expansion stays within that ecosystem. Sigenergy SigenStor avoids this by combining the inverter and battery in one unit, so there's no separate inverter to match when you add capacity.

Can either battery provide whole-home backup during a power cut?

Sigenergy SigenStor is designed for true whole-home backup, powering your full consumer unit during an outage subject to load. Solax Triple Power typically provides partial or essential-loads backup, covering selected circuits. The exact capability depends on your battery size, inverter rating and how the installation is configured.

Do Sigenergy and Solax batteries qualify for 0% VAT?

Yes. Both qualify for 0% VAT on domestic supply-and-install, including standalone battery storage, until 31 March 2027, after which the rate reverts to 5% (HMRC VAT Notice 708/6). Note that some installers incorrectly state 31 January 2027 — the correct deadline is 31 March 2027.

How much does a Sigenergy or Solax battery cost installed?

As an indicative guide (verified June 2026), domestic battery storage typically costs around £700-£950 per usable kWh installed, with 0% VAT applied. Your final price depends on capacity, inverter compatibility and install complexity. Request a quote from YEERS for a figure specific to your home rather than relying on a general range.

Can I earn money from a Sigenergy or Solax battery through the SEG?

Yes. With an MCS-certified install and a smart meter, surplus stored energy exported to the grid earns payments under the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG). Octopus Outgoing Fixed pays around 15p/kWh flat, with time-of-use tariffs reaching up to ~27p at peak (indicative, June 2026 — check current supplier rates). A battery lets you store and time exports to capture higher rates.
