Planning: 35 conservation areas
Sheffield City Council lists 35 conservation areas wholly within the city (38 counting three shared with neighbouring planning authorities). The City Centre and Kelham Island appraisals were approved in October 2025 and Ranmoor, Endcliffe, Norton and Oaks Park are under review. Panels on a roof slope facing a highway in a conservation area, or on a listed building, need consent first.
Council climate programme
The council declared a climate emergency in 2019, adopted a 10 Point Plan for Climate Action and published net zero routemaps in 2023, with an ambition for the council and the city to reach net zero by 2030.
